Bono has revealed that the mixmaster genius behind Gnarls Barkley, Danger Mouse, is producing U2’s next album due out some time during the first half of 2011. And even if that seems weird, according to Bono, “It’s just happening so easily.”

Twelve songs are rumored to be complete already, although no album title has been announced. But I can report the band has two other releases in the works, including a dance album that will feature some pretty cool collaborations with Will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas and the famous spin doctor David Guetta.

The dance disc developed from the cache of remixes U2 recorded in the nineties. Bono describes them as “a real treasure” they wanted to use to make a club-sounding record. It will be interesting to hear the final product and to see if they’ll break out any of their tunes live on U2’s tour next year.

With 12 albums and 30+ years of musical experience under their belts, U2 is a band that knows how to get things done. But they faced quite a challenge recently after they were asked to create the music for “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark,” a rock musical based off the Spider-an comic books, which debuts Jan. 11, 2011.

U2 frontman Bono said the work was “Easier than we could ever have imagined. Harder than we ever thought.”

“I mean, easier in the sense that the music came to us effortlessly. Dreaming up the show, the scale of it, the flying sequence, the pop art opera that it is - that was all pure joy,” Bono said in a pollstar.com article. “What we didn’t realize was how difficult it is to stage this stuff, both technically and financially.”

“Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” is, to date, the most expensive Broadway production in history. The $60 million dollar production is the first to be worked on by U2’s Bono and The Edge, the band’s guitar player. It also features more than 40 actors, tons of sets and, of course, a great score.

“If the rabbit comes out of the hat, we will be, I think, rewarded. If the rabbit comes out of the leg of the trousers, we could be figures of fun for a few days. Or worse. Maybe looking for a job,” Bono said.

Don’t miss your chance to see this amazing production at the Foxwoods Theatre in New York City. Get your U2 tickets and Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark tickets today!

Before U2 kicked off its European tour dates at the end of June, it spent a few days prior rehearsing in Barcelona, Spain, where the tour was set to begin. That’s when the problems started.

The Spaniards didn’t appreciate the band rehearsing beyond the midnight cut off time, and complained the concerts on June 30th and July 2nd at Camp Nou Stadium exceeded the prescribed noise level restrictions. As a result, Barcelona has levied a fine on U2 of 18,000 Euros, or approximately $22,000!

Come on, Barcelona! If you can’t stand the noise, get out of the stadium! Great music is meant to be played LOUD! At this time, I am happy to report no other cities have had any problems with the band or their decibel levels.

U2 is reportedly working on a “club sounding” album, according to Rolling Stone Magazine.

The band is going to be super busy within the coming months, because in addition to working on the new pop album, they are also going to release a rock album and another album called Songs of Ascent, which is a handful of songs that came out of the recording session from their 2009 album, No Line On the Horizon.

Two of U2’s members–Bono and The Edge–are also working on the score for the upcoming Spider-Man musical.

The band has had some time on their hands since frontman Bono had emergency back surgery in May, which caused them to postpone their 360-degree world tour until early August. Bono told Rolling Stone that he was “grateful” of how everything worked out: “There are a lot bigger problems out there than the ones I was facing. … But I came out of it perfect. And I feel incredibly grateful,” he said. Read the complete interview here.

Well, unfortunately, all U.S. tour dates, which were originally scheduled to run through July 19, have been postponed. However, the silver lining on this gray cloud is that they plan to continue on with their tour overseas!

From Aug. 6 to Oct. 8, U2 is expected to perform 22 concerts! Some of the tour’s highlights include stops in Frankfurt, Germany on Aug. 10; Moscow, Russia on Aug. 25; Paris, France on Sept. 18; and Rome, Italy on Oct. 8.

If you can’t make it overseas, but are still yearning for U2 tunes, check out Hollywood U2 on Aug. 13 in Los Angeles. Hollywood U2 is the “world’s leading U2 tribute show” and has a concert scheduled at Club Nokia with special guest The Rising.

Don’t miss your chance to get your U2 tickets (or Hollywood U2 tickets) to see them perform live!

U2 frontman, Bono, underwent major emergency back surgery last Friday at a hospital in Munich, Germany. He had been experiencing a lot of pain and partial paralysis in his lower leg, which were due to a nerve compression, ligament tear and a herniated disc, all in his back.

The surgery went well, and he’s been discharged from the hospital, but must now undergo a rest and rehabilitation program for at least 8 weeks - doctor’s orders. His health and prognosis are both looking good. And that’s the good news.

The bad news is that the band has no choice but to postpone all their June and July tour dates, i.e., their entire second leg of the North American tour, and their appearance at the Glastonbury Festival in England. Paul McGuinness, U2’s manager, confirmed the postponements, and Bono and the band’s disappointment, on U2.com, stating:

“Our biggest and I believe best tour has been interrupted and we’re all devastated. For a performer who lives to be on stage, this is more than a blow. He feels robbed of the chance to do what he does best and feels like he has badly let down the band and their audience. Which is of course nonsense. His concerns about more than a million ticket buyers whose plans have been turned upside down, we all share, but the most important thing right now is that Bono make a full recovery. We’re working as fast as we can with Live Nation to reschedule these dates.”

The North American dates will have to be rescheduled for some time in 2011, unfortunately, but that’s just give more time for the anticipation to build, and more time for you lot who didn’t get U2 tickets yet to snag some. Exact dates are still TBD, so check back for more U2 news to come.

Until then, best wishes to Bono for a speedy recovery, and for the rest of the band… patience.
